Homework

Homework reinforces what is learned at school and instills good work habits. Assignments are generally begun in class, which means students should always know the directions of their assignments when working on them at home.

Children should work on written homework for no more than 60 minutes each night, Monday through Thursday. They should also read for 20 minutes each night.

Our class does not have homework on weekends (usually), unless your child has fallen behind.

If you feel that your child is spending too much or too little time on their assignments, please let me know so I can work with your child toward a solution. Please work with your child to stay on top of long-term projects.
Standard Homework

Standard Homework

  • Your child's main daily homework is to try to meet their AR (Accelerated Reader) and AM (Accelerated Math) goals. Unfinished class work will sometimes be sent home to be completed. A grade of 70% and below should be corrected at home unless class time is available.
  • Students have been asked to copy down all assignments in their student planner and check them off as they are completed. Please sign their planner once a week on Fridays.
  • A Pre-spelling test is given on Monday so students know which words to study for the Friday Spelling test.
  • From time to time I will assign additional work. This work could be in any subject area.

  • Other areas that your child should be working in on their own would be Math Facts, Parts of speech, Word knowledge definitions, and Punctuation rules. All require memorization. Tests are given periodically and are cumulative. Fifth graders should also work on memorizing the States
  • It is quite possible that if your child uses their time wisely in class, they will have very little unfinished work. (If your child is overwhelmed with homework, please let me know.)  You should expect to see corrected work going home on a regular basis. Please ask your child to share this work with you so that you can celebrate their strengths and support their weak areas. You can also monitor your child's grades on Aeries by going to missing assignments. Feel free to email me with any questions or concerns.

If you have any questions, please e-mail me. Thank you.
