Haley's Comets News 

Welcome to Mr. and Mrs. Haley's 1st Grade!

We want to welcome you and our child to our child to our classroom.  These are the years your child will learn to read and read well.  Students who learn to read well in these early grades will have success throughout their years in school.  Together, you and us will ensure that each child in this classroom learns to read.  This cannot happen without your help.

How to Help At Home

1. Help your child read his/her decodable books.
2. Insist that your child uses their finger to follow along as they read.
3. Read to your child in English.
4. Take your child to the library to check out books.
5. Talk to your child and ask him/her questions about what they are learning.

About the Haley's

Mrs. Haley taught school at Notre Dame School in Marysville for four years before moving on to Lone Tree School where she taught third grade for eleven years.  She is now beginning her second year in first grade at the Wheatland Charter Academy.  She graduated from California State University, Chico, where she majored in Liberal Studies in preparation for teaching elementary school.

Mr. Haley retired from twenty-one years in the U.S. Army.  He continued his education at California State University, Sacramento, where he majored in Psychology and received his teaching credential.  He completed his M.A. in Education Curriculum and Development three years later.  He taught seven years at Far West School (next door) in fourth and fifth grades.  Moving to Wheatland, he taught fourth, fifth, sixth, and Opportunity class at Bear River School for ten years.  He is now beginning his second year at the Wheatland Charter Academy.

Both Mr. and Mrs. Haley have been Montessori trained and will be implementing Montessori education in the classroom.
